The Research Chair of Health Informatics and Promotion (RCHIP)


The Research Chair of Health Informatics and Promotion aims to be an excellent leading resource in the scientific research related to applied health informatics, both in the region and globally. The chair strives towards establishing a scientific environment that encourages research, printed publications, as well as training and development to enhance the local community role in Health Informatics and Health Promotions.

The main objectives of the research chair include fostering research interests toward serving the community and enriching the field of health informatics through conducting integrated research between diseases, and the recent biotechnology used. In addition to this, the chair seeks to improve the quality of healthcare services through studying and exploring its key measures within health informatics research, as well as participating in developing and conducting health and medical training/educational programs and providing professional consultations. Lastly, the chair is focused on providing specialized, professional and scientific consultations to hospitals in the private and public sectors, as well as healthcare organizations, and other research centers.

Prof. Ahmed Albarrak

a Professor of Medical Informatics in Medical Education at College of Medicine, King Saud University and the former founding Chairman of Medical Informatics Dept. and director of E-learning and Knowledge Management for King Saud University Hospitals and College of Medicine. I received my Masters of Sciences degree in Biomedical Engineering, Surrey University, U.K and a PhD in Health Informatics, City University, London, UK.

Dr. Nasriah Zakaria

an Assistant Professor at Medical Education Department, College of Medicine in King Saud University. She is also holding a post as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computer Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia.

Prof. Liz Burd

Professor Liz Burd joined the UoN from the University of Durham in the UK, where she was Dean of Undergraduate Education and Chair of Information Technology. Has an international reputation in the field of education, Prof. Burd recognised for her pioneering research into Technology Enhanced Learning. Globally recognised having received 5 University awards for enhancing learning. Member of Chair of the IEEE Engineering and Technology Education Portals Committee.

1- King Saud University (KSU)


King Saud University, the premier institution of higher education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was established in 1957 to enhance the nation's growth and well-being. The university has three main colleges: Science, Health and Humanities, with a campus for female students as well as Community colleges. Within the Health Colleges is the College of Medicine, which is comprised of 11 departments and is the leading medical school in the Middle East.

2- Medical Informatics and e-learning Unit (MIELU)


Our Medical Informatics and E-learning Units belongs to the Medical Education department in the College of Medicine. The Medical Education department is also responsible for curriculum design and implementation, faculty development, in addition to small group learning and assessment.
The Medical Informatics and E-Learning Unit mission is to reform health systems by providing leadership, discovery and dissemination of knowledge, clinical practice and community service in clinical informatics, to students, faculty and healthcare professionals. The unit is comprised of two main sections: Medical Informatics and E-Learning. The Medical Informatics section is concerned with teaching and conducting Medical Informatics course to undergraduate students, conducting Health Informatics track in Masters of Public Health program, conducting research in the area of clinical informatics,and collaborating with King Saud University medical city hospitals. The E-Learning section focuses on delivering training to students and faculty in a variety of computer programs, conducting research in the areas learning management system (Blackboard) and e-learning utilization and future e-learning tools for Medical Education.
